Former NFL exec looks forward to reunion at Super Bowl

TEMPE, Ariz. — The last time the Super Bowl was in Arizona, Ray Anderson was the Executive Vice President of Football Operations for the NFL.

Seven years later, the Super Bowl is heading to Arizona but Anderson won’t have to make the long haul again from NFL headquarters in New York.

Anderson is in his first year as Vice President for University Athletics and Athletic Director at Arizona State University and is relishing the reunion in his new backyard.

Ex-GM: Team judged OTs in draft off performance vs. Joey Bosa

NFL Media analysts had been told that Ohio State sophomore Joey Bosa is the nation’s best "combo" defensive end. Now comes news from former Cleveland Browns general manager Phil Savage, the executive director of the Reese’s Senior Bowl, that one NFL team is judging offensive tackle prospects off their work against Bosa.

OSU’s Joey Bosa might be best DE in country. One NFL org told me they judged every OT in the 2014 #NFLDraft on his performance vs. Bosa.

Earlier this month, NFL Media analysts reported that the opinion of three NFL scouts who attended the Big Ten Championship Game was that Bosa does everything required of a defensive end equally well — plays the run and rushes the passer — and that there appear to be no concerns about his motor.

Inquire 5: who"s greatest NFL comparison for Missouri DE Shane Ray?

Alabama and Missouri will square off on Saturday in the SEC title match. Every college football supporter in the united states knows Crimson Tide star wide receiver Amari Cooper, but Missouri has some star power, also. Defensive end Shane Ray is among the most effective pass rushers in the nation.

I polled five NFL executives and asked them to get a Ray comparison from an earlier draft course. Here will be the results:

In a weekly show, draft analyzer Daniel Jeremiah surveys five NFL employees executives about college football’s top possibilities.

"he’s an remarkable get-away and he is bendy working the advantage.

Former Browns GM: Ty Montgomery a likely first-round pick

There is plenty of distance between college football’s top players and the 2015 NFL Draft — not only the rest of the football season, but the scouting season as well. For now, though, things look good for Stanford wide receiver Ty Montgomery. Reese’s Senior Bowl executive director Phil Savage, the former general manager of the Cleveland Browns, likes what he sees from the senior.

"Ty will likely be a first-round pick because of his combination value as a receiver and return man, and with that said, should be able to get on the field as a rookie and help an NFL team right away," Savage wrote in the latest seniorbowl.com scouting report.

Texas" Charlie Strong meets with Roger Goodell, Troy Vincent

Charlie Strong is definitely an early riser, but lately discovered a high profile assembly in the docket rather than movie review.

The Texas head coach met with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and NFL Executive VP of Football Operations Troy Vincent in Austin on Sunday morning.

"This morning, (Goodell) and I met with (trainer Strong) to discuss core values, game ethics, and faculty connections. Excellent assembly, great stimulation," Vincent tweeted. & quot;(Strong’s) emphasis on character and esteem over gift is shaping the following generation of football ability. Standards are essential. Commissioner and I are focused on strengthening relationships with schools. Thanks for the time today (Charlie Strong)."

In the aftermath of several high profile domestic violence cases, the commissioner spent about three hours on Saturday night in the National Domestic Violence Hotline in Austin. Vincent was also apparently in attendance, and afterwards met with NFL alumni in your community about various problems based on his Twitter account.

Inquire 5: Who does Marcus Mariota of Oregon remind you of?

nfl.use(“nfl-video”, function (Y) (!supportsFlashVideo && !supportsHTML5)), srcId = “vid1″, srcNodeId = “#”+srcId, srcNode = Y.one(srcNodeId), width = Number(“615″), height = Number(“346″), vp, w, rsH, orH, updateSize; if(requireSizeAdjustment) updateSize = function() w = srcNode.get(‘offsetWidth’); vp.get(“boundingBox”).setStyles( width: w + ‘px’, height: Math.round(w*(9/16)) + ‘px’ ); ; width = srcNode.get(‘offsetWidth’); height = Math.round(width*(9/16)); rsH = Y.on(“resize”, updateSize, window); orH = Y.on(“orientationchange”, updateSize, window); nfl.videoplayers = nfl.videoplayers );

I do not consider there is an Andrew Luck-quality quarterback now playing college football, and we will not see a gift like the Indianapolis Colts quarterback for a long time. However, Oregon QB Marcus Mariota is among the more intriguing quarterbacks we have found in several years.

Mariota features a double-risk skill set similar to Johnny Manziel, the Heisman Trophy winner from Texas A&M who now plays for the Cleveland Browns. The 2014 NFL Draft first-round pick quite almost went to Oregon, and then-Oregon trainer and present Philadelphia Eagles trainer Chip Kelly said losing out on Manziel, "busted my heart." Rather, Kelly could get a commitment from Mariota in the exact same recruiting group.

Occasionally it is rough to find comparisons for players who run the wideopen Oregon offense, but I reached out to five NFL staff executives to determine which present NFL quarterback does Mariota remind them of as a player.

Goodell, Vincent meet with ex-players to discuss actions policy

The procedure to improve the NFL’s Individual Conduct Policy is underway.

Per NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport, Commissioner Roger Goodell and Executive Vice President of Football Operations Troy Vincent directed a three-and-a-half hour meeting in the NFL offices in Nyc on Tuesday with an organization of 11 former NFL players to talk about the best way to increase the policy.

There will probably be added such assemblies which will comprise an extensive array of internal and outside views within Commissioner Goodell’s obligation to revamp the league’s Individual Run Policy.

The former NFL players who attended the assembly were Hall of Famer Mike Singletary, Matt Birk, Patrick Kerney, Marty Lyons, Willie McGinest, Eddie Mason, Roman Oben, Tony Paige, Robert Porcher, Scott Turner and Charles Way.

Lookouts compare Alabama"s Amari Cooper to experts

nfl.use(“nfl-video”, function (Y) (!supportsFlashVideo && !supportsHTML5)), srcId = “vid1″, srcNodeId = “#”+srcId, srcNode = Y.one(srcNodeId), width = Number(“615″), height = Number(“346″), vp, w, rsH, orH, updateSize; if(requireSizeAdjustment) updateSize = function() w = srcNode.get(‘offsetWidth’); vp.get(“boundingBox”).setStyles( width: w + ‘px’, height: Math.round(w*(9/16)) + ‘px’ ); ; width = srcNode.get(‘offsetWidth’); height = Math.round(width*(9/16)); rsH = Y.on(“resize”, updateSize, window); orH = Y.on(“orientationchange”, updateSize, window); nfl.videoplayers = nfl.videoplayers );

Five NFL staff executives went in five different ways when asked who Alabama wide receiver Amari Cooper compares to among NFL receivers, but all five set the Crimson Tide’s possible first-round draft pick in remarkable business.

NFL Media analyzer Daniel Jeremiah gathered these five comparisions for his weekly "Inquire 5" attribute: the Atlanta Falcons’ Roddy White, the Chicago Bears’ Santonio Holmes, the Green Bay Packers’ Jordy Nelson, and two high picks in the NFL draft in May — New York Giants first-rounder Odell Beckham and Jacksonville Jaguars second-round pick Marquise Lee.

Cooper would definitely do well to match White’s NFL career. White should reach the 10,000-yard career receiving milestone at some stage this season. Said the NFL personnel guy who made the White comparison: "He Is sneaky quick, really physical, tough and dependable. He is a man you need to get the ball in the clutch."

Ask 5: Top up-and-coming coaches outside "Power 5" leagues

College football has been fertile ground for future NFL head coaches. Just look at the recent NFL success of former college head coaches Pete Carroll (coming off a Super Bowl-winning season with the Seattle Seahawks), Jim Harbaugh (coming off a third consecutive appearance in the NFC Championship Game with the San Francisco 49ers) and Chip Kelly (coming off an NFC East title in his first season with the Philadelphia Eagles).

All three of them came from high-profile Pac-12 programs, but you don’t necessarily have to look at the highest levels to identify the next up-and-coming coach. Keep in mind that Kelly spent time at New Hampshire before going to Oregon, and Harbaugh was head coach at the University of San Diego before going to Stanford.

With that in mind, I reached out to five NFL executives and asked them for a hot coaching candidate outside of the "Power Five" conferences. Here’s what they had to say:

Executive 1: Mark Hudspeth (Louisiana-Lafayette)
"He really seems to have the pulse of his team, but he doesn’t micromanage. He’s a creative offensive guy and he can recruit. That’s not an easy place to win and he’s done just that."
