Ex-GM: Team judged OTs in draft off performance vs. Joey Bosa

NFL Media analysts had been told that Ohio State sophomore Joey Bosa is the nation’s best "combo" defensive end. Now comes news from former Cleveland Browns general manager Phil Savage, the executive director of the Reese’s Senior Bowl, that one NFL team is judging offensive tackle prospects off their work against Bosa.

OSU’s Joey Bosa might be best DE in country. One NFL org told me they judged every OT in the 2014 #NFLDraft on his performance vs. Bosa.

Earlier this month, NFL Media analysts reported that the opinion of three NFL scouts who attended the Big Ten Championship Game was that Bosa does everything required of a defensive end equally well — plays the run and rushes the passer — and that there appear to be no concerns about his motor.

Bowl viewer"s guide: Previewing Saturday"s slate of CFB action

College bowl season officially kicks off Saturday, and College Football 24/7 is providing a daily glimpse at the best players in each game and predictions from writers Gil Brandt, Bucky Brooks, Daniel Jeremiah, Bryan Fischer, Chase Goodbread and Mike Huguenin.

Site: New Orleans
Date: Dec. 20
Time/TV: 11 a.m. ET, ESPN
Matchup: Louisiana-Lafayette (8-4) vs. Nevada (7-5)
NFL teams attending: Buffalo Bills
Top players to watch: Nevada (QB Cody Fajardo, DE Brock Hekking, WR Hasaan Henderson, DE/LB Ian Seau); Louisiana-Lafayette (RB Alonzo Harris, WR Jamal Robinson).
Why NFL fans should tune in: Why not get your bowl season started out right with an intriguing matchup between an up-and-down Wolf Pack team taking on one of the most impressive Sun Belt teams over the years in ULL? Fajardo has put up comparable numbers to Colin Kaepernick during his time in Reno and is among the best dual-threat quarterbacks in the country. The team’s pistol offense gets a lot of the press, but it’s the defense you’ll really want to keep an eye out for with Ian Seau (Junior’s nephew) and wild man Brock Hekking, who might have the best hair in college football and is an equally fearsome pass rusher. As for the Ragin Cajuns, they feature a number of playmakers on the offensive side that could wind up being late Day Three selections.
Game predictions:
Brandt: UL-Lafayette, 24-21
Brooks: UL-Lafayette, 33-30
Jeremiah: Nevada, 28-24
Fischer: UL-Lafayette, 33-23
Goodbread: Nevada, 30-21
Huguenin: UL-Lafayette, 27-24

Alabama and Missouri will square off on Saturday in the SEC title match. Every college football supporter in the united states knows Crimson Tide star wide receiver Amari Cooper, but Missouri has some star power, also. Defensive end Shane Ray is among the most effective pass rushers in the nation.

I polled five NFL executives and asked them to get a Ray comparison from an earlier draft course. Here will be the results:

2015 NFL Draft to be held in Chicago

The 2015 NFL Draft will be held April 30-May 2 at the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University in Chicago, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced Thursday.

"We are excited to have fans from throughout the midwest experience the NFL Draft," Goodell said in a statement announcing the draft location. "We look forward to returning the event to the city of Chicago and working with the city, Choose Chicago, and the Chicago Sports Commission to create a week-long celebration of football for our fans. Mayor Emanuel and the city of Chicago presented us with numerous ways to enhance the Draft experience for our fans and incoming players."

The Windy City beat out Los Angeles, which was the other finalist in the running to host the league’s marquee event next year. Various sites across the country expressed interest in hosting the affair but couldn’t beat out a strong bid from Chicago that was backed by Emanuel.

"Chicago is pleased to welcome the 2015 NFL Draft to America’s heartland," Emanuel said in a statement. "Next year, NFL fans from across the country will travel here or tune in as the future of their team is decided in Chicago. Wisconsin"s Melvin Gordon seeming to return on track

Wisconsin junior tailback Melvin Gordon ranked himself Monday during the Badgers’ weekly news conference, and he gave himself a "D."

Gordon (6-foot-1, 213 pounds) rushed for 1,609 yards and 12 TDs and averaged 7.8 yards per carry last season; through two matches this season, he’s 198 yards and one TD and is averaging 5.4 yards per carry. Those amounts are strong, however they are nowhere near what’s asked of among the very talented backs in the country.

"It Is rough when everyone across the country is expecting one to break a very long one likely every match, and should you not, it is like, ‘Perhaps he is not what we believed he was,’" Gordon told reporters. & quot; But you have got to dismiss it the best you are able to make an effort to move forward and place your best foot forward in another match."

That next game is Saturday against Bowling Green, whose defense has let 374 rushing yards and seven rushing TDs in its two matches against FBS competitions this year. Last week, Indiana tailback Tevin Coleman ran for 190 yards and three TDs from the Falcons.

Boston College stuns USC behind strong running attack

USC was riding high after last week’s huge upset of Pac 12 competition Stanford.

On Saturday yet, the Trojans came crashing back to reality as they were run over — actually — by Boston College in a vast cross country upset, 37-31.

Eagles quarterback Tyler Murphy was nothing to write home about as a passer — 5-of-13 for 54 yards — but gashed USC in the earth for 191 yards and also a score. Boston College wound up with 452 yards to the floor as the Trojans defense just could not stop them.

Offensive line woes harassed USC much of the night time. The team simply had 20 yards to the earth (on 29 attempts) and went just 5-of-16 on third down. Quarterback Cody Kessler threw four touchdowns and had strong numbers but was harassed all night long by an impressive front seven.

Report: CB Marcus Peters suspended for sideline tantrum

An already shaky Pac-12 pass defense will be without its star player this week.

According to the Seattle Times, Washington head coach Chris Petersen suspended junior cornerback Marcus Peters for the team’s upcoming game against Illinois.

"Discipline will stay in house," Petersen said at his weekly press conference on Monday when asked about Peters’ status. "I’m not addressing any of that right now. We’ll talk about that down the road."

Peters did not play in the fourth quarter of the team’s 59-52 win over FCS power Eastern Washington. Although the Huskies are 2-0 heading into Saturday’s game, they are ranked 112th in the country in pass-efficiency defense and 114th in passing yards allowed.
