Treon Harris reinstated after accuser withdraws complaint

Just days after Florida freshman quarterback Treon Harris was suspended indefinitely after being accused of a sexual assault, the accuser has withdrawn the complaint and Harris has been reinstated to the team.

But while he’s rejoined the Gators a day before a crucial home game against LSU, he won’t play against the Tigers.

"We have been notified that the University and legal process is complete. Treon has been reinstated to the team, but he will not play Saturday," UF coach Will Muschamp said in a statement. "This has been a learning experience for everyone involved. Treon has been honest with me throughout the process and is looking forward to rejoining his teammates."

UF confirmed earlier in the day that Harris’ accuser had withdrawn the claim.

Nick Marshall shreds LSU defense in blowout win

In his first start as an SEC quarterback, LSU’s Brandon Harris didn’t get it done.

But at least he got to watch Nick Marshall show him how.

Auburn’s senior quarterback led a 566-yard explosion by the Tigers’ offense in a 41-7 home win. He completed 14 of 22 passes for 207 yards and two touchdowns without an interception. But it was his direction of Auburn’s base running play, the zone-read option, that really had LSU on its heels. Marshall rushed 16 times for 119 yards and two more touchdowns, while the give man on the option — senior Cameron Artis-Payne — had 126 yards on 24 carries.

It didn’t take long for Marshall to stake his team to a commanding lead. He found wide receiver Sammie Coates (four catches, 144 yards) for a 56-yard touchdown in the first quarter, then put the Tigers up 17-0 with a 7-yard touchdown run. Marshall all but put the game out of reach with 2:29 left in the first half with a 29-yard touchdown run.

Clemson"s Deshaun Watson throws for 6 TDs in first career start

Real freshman quarterback Deshaun Watson made his first start for Clemson on Saturday, and he set the bar fairly high.

Watson threw for 435 yards as well as a school-record six touchdowns as the Tigers beaten North Carolina, 50-35. The six TD passes additionally establish an ACC record for just about any league quarterback making his starting debut.

He finished 27-of-36 (75 percent), and six of his completions went to sophomore wide receiver Mike Williams; those receptions were great for 122 yards and two touchdowns. Clemson ended with 528 total yards and was 10-of-18 on third down conversions.

Watson threw two TD passes in the very first half, both covering at least 50 yards; he pitched two in the 3rd quarter and another two in the fourth quarter. Five of the six TD passes covered at least 24 yards and four were at least 30 yards.

Nineteen matters you should learn from Week 4 in CFB

Clemson had every opportunity it might ask for to pull off a road upset of No. 1-ranked Florida State on Saturday, and the Tigers’ offense gave every one of them back in the Seminoles’ 23-17 overtime getaway.

The silence you hear is Jameis Winston giving thanks.

The Tigers had a touchdown chance together with the ball in the FSU goal line, however a shotgun snap over the head of quarterback Deshaun Watson resulted in a huge loss as well as a missed field goal to begin the fourth quarter. Late in the fourth quarter, Clemson intercepted a Sean Maguire pass and had itself readily within field goal range with less than two minutes to play. But the Tigers could not get out of their own way long enough to run the clock down and give their kicker a opportunity to stop it. Instead, a fumble gave the Seminoles new life in the kind of overtime.

But Clemson’s presents did not cease there.

Without Jameis Winston, Florida State wins in overtime

Who wants Jameis Winston? Florida State proved it could win without its Heisman-winning quarterback, defeating Clemson 23-17 in overtime.

Truth be told, Clemson lost the match around FSU won it. The Tigers had seven red-zone chances complete, went inside FSU’s 5 twice without scoring, missed two field goals, fumbled once in the red zone and missed on a fourth-and-1 run in overtime. Clemson developed FSU 249-84 in the very first half, including holding the Seminoles to minus-22 rushing yards, but led only 10-3 at halftime.

However, despite being outplayed for much of the night time, FSU shown resiliency without Winston, who had been suspended for the match. Senior tailback Karlos Williams scored the winning TD on a 12-yard run in overtime; the Seminoles finished with only 13 rushing yards when you figure in sacks.

FSU coach Jimbo Fisher said Winston — who had been dressed out and in the field in pregame warmups before returning to the locker room and removing his shoulder pads — would come back to practice Monday. While Winston was to the sideline throughout the match (and apparently was featured in every camera photo of FSU’s sideline), he had not been made open to the media following the match.

Wisconsin"s Melvin Gordon held to just 38 rushing yards in win

Wisconsin tailback Melvin Gordon had good production but relatively few carries last week in a loss to LSU. That wasn’t the case Saturday, when he was basically shut down by FCS foe Western Illinois.

Gordon had 17 carries, but they went for just 38 yards in a 37-3 win over the Leathernecks. He had 8 yards on nine carries in the first half, which ended with the Badgers leading just 9-3. Wisconsin took control in the second half, but it was because of the arm of Tanner McEvoy, who threw for 283 yards and three TDs.

Gordon (6-foot-1, 209 yards) was seen as a Heisman candidate before the season, but he’ll need to ramp up his production in the next few weeks to get back into the Heisman discussion. He did have four receptions for 22 yards and a TD on Saturday; it was just the second TD reception of his career. Gordon had just one reception last season.

Gordon did have a 21-yard run in the second half, but that was his only notable carry of the day. Gordon was said to be bothered by a minor hip injury, but he had one more carry against Western Illinois than he did against LSU; against the Tigers, though, he rushed for 140 yards.
