Adrian Peterson appeal refused; suspension carried on

Thirdparty arbitrator Harold Henderson has denied the appeal of Adrian Peterson’s suspension.

Henderson reasoned that Peterson failed to show the procedure and processes encompassing his discipline were unjust and inconsistent.

"He was afforded all of the protections and rights to which he’s entitled," Henderson said, "and that i find no basis to vacate or decrease the discipline."

Henderson additionally noted that Peterson’s public remarks "don’t represent compunction or understanding for the earnestness of his activities."

Lane Kiffin early again, and right again, with touchdown call

ATLANTA — Only weekly after Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin observed a touchdown pass to star receiver Amari Cooper before the pass was even thrown, the mastermind of the Crimson Tide’s record-setting offense was at it again.

But this time, his assurance was just as high in Alabama’s No. 2 receiver, DeAndrew White.

Seemingly enjoying the coverage he saw in the catch of the ball yet again, Kiffin lifted his arms only before this 58-yard touchdown pass from Blake Sims to White (see Kiffin, bottom right):

Inquire 5: who"s greatest NFL comparison for Missouri DE Shane Ray?

Alabama and Missouri will square off on Saturday in the SEC title match. Every college football supporter in the united states knows Crimson Tide star wide receiver Amari Cooper, but Missouri has some star power, also. Defensive end Shane Ray is among the most effective pass rushers in the nation.

I polled five NFL executives and asked them to get a Ray comparison from an earlier draft course. Here will be the results:

Todd Gurley runs for 138, injured in return from suspension

Mark Richt didn’t exactly ease Todd Gurley back into the mix in the Georgia rushing rotation Saturday. And after a four-game suspension, the star junior looked like his dominant self until a left knee injury ended his night.

Gurley fed on a season-high 29 carries for 138 yards and a touchdown to help the Bulldogs to a 34-7 home drubbing of Auburn, keeping UGA in the hunt for an SEC East title, and as well marking the return of one of college football’s elite talents. But late in the game, Gurley took a carry up the middle and suffered an undisclosed injury to his left knee. He was carted off the field.

In his postgame press conference, Richt acknowledged Gurley hurt his knee, but wasn’t able to shed any light on the severity of the injury.

"Don’t know, I really don’t know," Richt told reporters. "I’m just as curious as everyone else. … He hurt his knee."

Like/Dislike: There is something about fantasy teams

He Is planning to beat us, right?

Slack the rear, man

Dude! Exactly what have you been doing?

Whenever I see "There Is Something About Mary" to the pay stations, it is possible to pretty much clear my schedule for the remaining night because I’m likely to view through the duration. (Even through the "Buttercup" video.) Happily the run to the pay stations lately finished prior to the football season began, or I might never get to your own questions on Twitter.

Baylor trainer sees No. 1 total possibility in Shawn Oakman

Shawn Oakman’s possibility and his creation, to be clear, are two things.

But while the enigmatic Baylor defensive end has not yet found a method to maximize his physical gifts, his attractiveness to NFL scouts as a draft prospect does not understand any limits, either.

"His ceiling? He might be the top man in the entire dang thing," Baylor defensive coordinator Phil Bennett said of Oakman’s possible spot in the NFL draft, in accordance with cbssports.com. "If (Jadeveon) Clowney can do it …"

Alabama TE Kurt Freitag caught with marijuana

A search conducted by the West Alabama Narcotics Task Force yielded 112 grams of marijuana and $4,661 in cash in the dorm room of Alabama reserve tight end Kurt Freitag, but Freitag apparently was not charged.

A court record filed Monday indicates the task force witnessed Freitag as part of a drug transaction last week, but according to al.com, there is no record of a legal charge against Freitag. The agents approached Freitag and read him his rights, and Freitag consented to a search of his residence at Bryant Hall that turned up the drugs and cash, which were seized. A confidential informant had previously alerted the task force to the drug deal. A spokesperson for the task force declined to comment, and an Alabama spokesperson said the matter is being looked into.

A third-year sophomore, Freitag has seen limited playing time in his career and was passed on the depth chart by a younger tight end last year in O.J. Howard.

Alabama plays host to Texas A&M on Saturday.

Top college football teams fighting over Evander Holyfield"s son

Normally, it’s not easy for a Georgia high school football player to get the attention of a Pac-12 school. But it doesn’t hurt when your last name is Holyfield.

Elijah Holyfield, the son of former heavyweight boxing champion Evander Holyfield and a four-star running back prospect from College Park, Ga., has picked up a scholarship offer from Oregon. It’s far from his first. The 5-foot-10, 195-pounder has also been offered by the likes of Ohio State, Georgia, Michigan, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Ole Miss and more, according to oregonlive.com.

Ameer Abdullah to be honored by group configuration

Nebraska running back Ameer Abdullah would not appear to want any help advertising himself as one of college football’s top rushers, not with the recent approval of fearameer.com and a gaudy average of 212 all-purpose yards per game. Not to mention being a top-five Heisman Trophy competition, in accordance with College Football 24/7’s Mike Huguenin.

The Cornhusker Marching Band still will make sure everyone at Memorial Stadium Saturday gets the Abdullah message loud and clean. This tease of the group’s halftime performance comes from your presumed Twitter web feed of Nebraska group manager Doug Bush:

Seventeen things you need to know from Week 2 CFB action

Southern Cal was involved, so you knew something bizarre would happen.

How about Trojans athletic director Pat Haden coming down from the press box to argue with officials, presumably about USC’s Hayes Pullard being ejected for targeting, during a thrilling 13-10 win over Stanford. Even more bizarre, Haden said he received a text that USC coach Steve Sarkisian wanted him to come down.

This about sums it up.

Haden, of course, is a member of the College Football Playoff selection committee. And his presence on the sideline in the middle of a game that could easily have implications on the playoff field is exactly why selection committee rules mandate that members with ties to a specific school recuse themselves from the committee’s deliberations about that school.

Charlie Strong absorbs first loss as Texas coach

New Texas coach Charlie Strong drew all sorts of criticism in the spring after telling a gathering of Longhorns fans that their team wouldn’t reach the national championship game.

He’s looking prophetic now, if not any more appreciated.

BYU brought the Texas-Strong honeymoon to an abrupt end as BYU quarterback Taysom Hill led a 41-7 win in the Longhorns’ 100,119-seat house. Hill completed 18 of 27 passes for 181 yards and rushed for another 99 to spoil things in Austin.

This play, in particular, was a forgettable one for Texas fans:
