Brandt: Greg Schiano prospective frontrunner for Michigan occupation

San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh can not look to escape conjecture that he could be the next coach at his alma mater, Michigan, but he is not the only one. NFL Media senior analyst Gil Brandt proposed via Twitter Friday that former Rutgers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano might be associated with the hunt, at the same time.

My wildcard for #Michigan is Greg Schiano, might even be frontrunner. Will get outstanding recommendations from highpowered #NFL trainers

Jameis Winston"s conduct hearing anticipated to finish Wednesday

The very first day of Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston’s code of conduct hearing went "as expected," his advisor told reporters, as well as the hearing is anticipated to close Wednesday.

"We believe this nightmare is going to be over really shortly," David Cornwell, Winston’s advisor, told reporters following the hearing ended Tuesday.

The school’s hearing — that is closed to the people — facilities on sexual assault allegations against Winston from December 2012, and possible punishments vary from probation to expulsion.

Winston did not talk to the media before or after the hearing, but both sides got their points across before the hearing. Cornwell said the accuser and her lawyers were attempting "to do their extortion strategy." And John Clune, the accuser’s lawyer, said in a statement, "it is the day that Mr. Winston has been urgently trying to prevent for two years. … Neither Jameis Winston nor his attorney can quit what’s coming."

NFL leading attempts to give to charity on Giving Tuesday

Tis the season to be jolly, and nothing improves morale and makes the holidays exceptional rather like giving.

together with the coming of Giving Tuesday, the NFL is diving headfirst into charity. While the league has been associated with the yearly day of offering for the past couple of years, it is taken another thing in 2014. The NFL has joined a #GivingTuesday effort developed by CrowdRise to improve their attempts, supporting both NFL Play 60 associate St. Jude Children’s Charity, plus the NFL players’ and trainers’ foundations (such as Bill Belichick, J.J. Watt, Torrey Smith and Andy Dalton).

To join the league in the NFL’s not-for-profit efforts, visit CrowdRise’s landing page to give to among the aforementioned organizations, or into a bevy of individual foundations created by present and previous players.

Mississippi State"s Dan Mullen was not bullish on playoff opportunities

Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen was not convinced his Bulldogs would’ve made the College Football Playoff even if they’d defeated Mississippi on Saturday.

Well, he sort of believed that, anyhow.

Mississippi State was ranked fourth in this week’s College Football Playoff positions, but after Saturday’s loss Mullen told CBSSports.com, "I did not believe we were getting in the playoff anyway."

Mullen subsequently talked more about it — and did not look almost as certain.

Dante Fowler tweets he"s leaving Florida with Will Muschamp

For the second year in a row, a Florida Gator has gotten the season of NFL draft entry declarations by underclassmen off to an early start.

Florida defensive end Dante Fowler filed social media notice of his intention to enter the 2015 NFL Draft Tuesday night. The junior noted on Twitter that he entered the Florida program at the same time as outgoing coach Will Muschamp and will fittingly make his exit with the dismissed coach as well.

I came in with champ. I’m leaving with Him.

Todd Gurley runs for 138, injured in return from suspension

Mark Richt didn’t exactly ease Todd Gurley back into the mix in the Georgia rushing rotation Saturday. And after a four-game suspension, the star junior looked like his dominant self until a left knee injury ended his night.

Gurley fed on a season-high 29 carries for 138 yards and a touchdown to help the Bulldogs to a 34-7 home drubbing of Auburn, keeping UGA in the hunt for an SEC East title, and as well marking the return of one of college football’s elite talents. But late in the game, Gurley took a carry up the middle and suffered an undisclosed injury to his left knee. He was carted off the field.

In his postgame press conference, Richt acknowledged Gurley hurt his knee, but wasn’t able to shed any light on the severity of the injury.

"Don’t know, I really don’t know," Richt told reporters. "I’m just as curious as everyone else. … He hurt his knee."

Star prospect Hroniss Grasu expected to miss couple of games

Oregon finds itself in an enviable spot, entering a bye week as the No. 2-ranked team by the College Football Playoff selection committee.

That doesn’t mean all is well in Eugene, though.

Offensive line woes have been one of the few things hampering the Ducks this season, and those issues will apparently stretch out even longer, as starting guard Hamani Stevens said star center Hroniss Grasu is expected to miss the next couple games after suffering an injury against Utah last week.

Report: Florida State looking into Jameis Winston autographs

An investigation into whether a college football player accepted money in exchange for autographs has already thrown the career of the Heisman front-runner, Todd Gurley, into jeopardy this season, and a similar probe might yet trip up the remaining eligibility of the Heisman’s reigning winner.

The Florida State compliance department has begun to look into how a large number of Jameis Winston autographs were authenticated and whether he accepted any money as a result, according to a report on ESPN.com.

A source told ESPN that head coach Jimbo Fisher asked Winston if he ever accepted money for autographs after Saturday’s win over Syracuse, and Winston responded that he did not. However, the James Spence Authentication company certified more than 340 autographs from Winston.

"The items that I’ve seen signed by Todd Gurley and Jameis Winston, which have been authenticated by JSA, look like they came from an autograph signing," Martin Buckley, co-owner of Palm Beach Autographs in Florida told the site. "This is based on the items themselves being similar, the quantities of those items, the consistency of signature as well as similar spots in which they signed."

Oklahoma holds on to beat Texas in Red River Rivalry

It wasn’t pretty, but Bob Stoops walked out of the Cotton Bowl a winner once again on Saturday.

Oklahoma’s offense was slowed to a halt most of the day by a feisty Texas defense, but, thanks to a few special-teams plays, the Sooners held on 31-26.

» 14 for ’14: Red River Shootout among top college rivalries

Quarterback Trevor Knight was largely ineffective most of the game, throwing for just 129 yards and a touchdown while the team failed to convert a third down until its final drive of the fourth quarter. Tailback Samaje Perine was held in check as well, averaging just 3.4 yards per carry after the true freshman had been running over the competition in Oklahoma’s previous games.

Nick Chubb replaces Todd Gurley with 143 yards

It took about twice the carries that Todd Gurley would normally need, but Georgia freshman running back Nick Chubb led the Bulldogs to a 34-0 rout of Missouri Saturday as the nation’s top running back missed his first game while on indefinite suspension.

Chubb carried 38 times for 143 yards and a touchdown and offensive coordinator Mike Bobo maintained the Bulldogs’ identity as a run-first offense, despite the absence of not only Gurley, but injured running backs Keith Marshall and Sony Michel, as well.

Georgia coach Mark Richt told CBS he asked Chubb before the game how much he carried the ball in high school, and Chubb told him 35 carries. "I told him we might get him that," Richt said.

He did that plus three, and the 5-foot-10, 230-pound power back became more effective as the game wore on.

Iowa State AD Jamie Pollard rants against Big 12 officials

There’s plenty of frustration when it comes to the state of officiating in college football. It’s bad in the Big 12, Big Ten, SEC, ACC and, especially, the Pac-12.

Well, Iowa State athletic director Jamie Pollard is beyond fed up with the current state of affairs and decided to come out and say something about it after the Cyclones appeared to have yet another call go against them in a 37-20 road loss Saturday to Oklahoma State.

Late in the first half, Oklahoma State running back Desmond Roland was stopped short of the goal line on a run, according to the original call on the field. The officials went to the booth to review the play and overturned the decision, awarding the Cowboys a touchdown. However, it’s hard to say video of the play was conclusive enough to overturn the call.
