Memphis" win over BYU in Miami Beach Bowl marred by brawl

The inaugural Miami Beach Bowl on Monday was memorable. What happened afterward was, too, just not in a good way.

A brawl broke out, complete with sucker punches and swinging helmets, after Memphis beat BYU, 55-48, in two overtimes.

ESPN cameras captured BYU starting safety Kai Nucua throwing a sucker punch at Memphis tight end Alan Cross, who wasn’t wearing a helmet. Nucua, a sophomore, already was bloodied as fights between players had broken out all over the field.

Peyton Manning"s Denver Broncos certainly Super Bowl favorites

nfl.use(“nfl-video”, function (Y) (!supportsFlashVideo && !supportsHTML5)), srcId = “v0ap3000000418636″, srcNodeId = “#”+srcId, srcNode = Y.one(srcNodeId), width = Number(“615″), height = Number(“346″), vp, w, rsH, orH, updateSize; if(requireSizeAdjustment) updateSize = function() w = srcNode.get(‘offsetWidth’); vp.get(“boundingBox”).setStyles( width: w + ‘px’, height: Math.round(w*(9/16)) + ‘px’ ); ; width = srcNode.get(‘offsetWidth’); height = Math.round(width*(9/16)); rsH = Y.on(“resize”, updateSize, window); orH = Y.on(“orientationchange”, updateSize, window); nfl.videoplayers = nfl.videoplayers );

I feel compelled to write this in advance of Denver’s excursion to New England for the 16th episode of Peyton Manning versus Tom Brady and Bill Belichick.

No matter what goes on at Gillette Stadium on Sunday, the Denver Broncos will be the top team in the NFL and needs to be considered the team to overcome as we look toward Super Bowl XLIX.

Peyton Manning and these Broncos are similar to the Miami Heat during LeBron James’ stay in South Beach. Fairly or unfairly, it is about getting to championships and winning titles. LeBron made the NBA Finals in every one of his four years using the Heat, snagging some of bands. That is a success, even whenever total did not quite fit the bevy of titles LeBron nonchalantly promised in his opening dance party. ("Not two, not three, not four, not five, not six, not seven …")

Report: Florida State looking into Jameis Winston autographs

An investigation into whether a college football player accepted money in exchange for autographs has already thrown the career of the Heisman front-runner, Todd Gurley, into jeopardy this season, and a similar probe might yet trip up the remaining eligibility of the Heisman’s reigning winner.

The Florida State compliance department has begun to look into how a large number of Jameis Winston autographs were authenticated and whether he accepted any money as a result, according to a report on ESPN.com.

A source told ESPN that head coach Jimbo Fisher asked Winston if he ever accepted money for autographs after Saturday’s win over Syracuse, and Winston responded that he did not. However, the James Spence Authentication company certified more than 340 autographs from Winston.

"The items that I’ve seen signed by Todd Gurley and Jameis Winston, which have been authenticated by JSA, look like they came from an autograph signing," Martin Buckley, co-owner of Palm Beach Autographs in Florida told the site. "This is based on the items themselves being similar, the quantities of those items, the consistency of signature as well as similar spots in which they signed."
