AUSTIN, Texas — Facing criticism in regards to the treatment of recent abuse cases, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell spent three hours Saturday night going to the headquarters of the National Domestic Violence Hotline and receiving an up close look in the realities sufferers face.
Hotline CEO Katie Ray-Jones, whose organization has received a multiyear, multimillion dollar assurance of support in the NFL, described the private assembly as "mental" for Goodell.
"At one point he was physically moved to tears as he heard stories from our supporters in what girls were falling upon, that we took now," Ray Jones said.
Hotline officials had encouraged Goodell to go to the facility, which will be placed in a nondescript, unmarked building in suburban Austin.
