Mississippi State"s Justin Cox arrested, suspended indefinitely

Mississippi State defensive back Justin Cox has been suspended indefinitely following his arrest on suspicion of burglary of a dwelling and aggravated domestic violence.

The off-campus incident occurred early Friday morning at an apartment complex, where Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department officers responded to a call at about 3 a.m. and discovered a female victim with a head injury, according to the Starkville Daily News. Cox was arrested at the scene and booked into the Oktibbeha County Jail, per the report.

Cox, a junior college transfer in his second year at MSU, has appeared in nine games this season, making 21 tackles, an interception and four pass breakups. It remains unclear who might fill in for Cox when the Bulldogs host Vanderbilt on Saturday night (7:30 p.m. ET, SEC Network).

Mississippi State remains in contention for an SEC title and a College Football Playoff berth. The Bulldogs must beat Vanderbilt and rival Ole Miss next week, plus get help in the form of an Auburn win over Alabama, to reach the SEC Championship Game. MSU is currently ranked No. 4 in the CFP rankings.

Stefon Diggs suspended for event before Penn State match

Maryland star wide receiver Stefon Diggs continues to be suspended in the Terrapins’ next match, Nov. 15 against Michigan State, for his activities before last Saturday’s triumph over Penn State.

The Big Ten announced the suspension Monday day, saying Diggs broken the Big Ten’s sportsmanship policy.

Various media reports said Diggs touched an official in the face in a fracas ahead of the match. But Diggs had not been ejected and led Maryland with six receptions for 53 yards, and he also returned kicks and punts.

In addition to suspending Diggs, the league issued a public reprimand of Maryland coach Randy Edsall, saying Edsall neglected to command his team prior to the match, when Terps players started a confrontation with Penn State players. The league said, "Officials did a great job of including the situation once it began, and luckily the incident didn’t escalate any additional."

Ray Rice"s appeal hearing on suspension set for Nov. 5-6

Ray Rice may have his appeal on his indefinite suspension heard in just over a couple of weeks.

NFL Media’s Albert Breer reported Tuesday that the former Baltimore Ravens running back’s hearing is set for Nov. 5 and 6, according to a union source.

Rice was initially suspended two games to get a domestic violence incident involving his then-fiancee at an Atlantic City casino in February. The suspension became indefinite in September after TMZ posted a video that revealed Rice eye-catching Janay Rice in a Revel Casino lift, causing her to hit her head on a railing and get rid of consciousness.

Prior to the release of the TMZ footage, the NFL announced far-reaching developments to the league’s Individual Actions Policy. In a letter to league owners, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell apologized for his first choice in the Rice case.

USC CB Josh Shaw remains on indefinite suspension

Suspended USC cornerback Josh Shaw’s immediate future remains up in the air.

The Los Angeles Daily News reported Wednesday that Trojans coach Steve Sarkisian said Shaw’s status rests with USC "higher-ups" after he was asked if Shaw would play this season.

"I know Josh is trying to do everything in his power to make that happen, but really there’s not even a decision to be made on our end, at this point," Sarkisian told trojansports.com.

Shaw (6-foot-1, 200 pounds), who would’ve started at cornerback for USC, was suspended indefinitely in late August, after he admitted he fabricated a story saying he had injured himself saving a drowning nephew. He is being investigated for a possible domestic violence incident.

Ameer Abdullah: Jameis Winston has "long way to go" in adulthood

Nebraska running back Ameer Abdullah needs what Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston already has — a Heisman Trophy — but it was Abdullah doling out some serious guidance for Winston on Monday.

The two school stars both hail from Alabama and consider each other friends. They were high school competitions in the Birmingham region, however they attended several summer camps jointly and apparently prepared together at exactly the same fitness center.

Nevertheless, Winston has been no stranger to off-the-field problems, as well as the episode that resulted in his suspension from Florida State’s game against Clemson — Winston shouted an obscene phrase within the student union — has seemingly rankled his fellow Heisman Trophy candidate and buddy. The Cornhuskers star directed a message Monday directly at Winston: Grow up.

"(Winston is) a very intelligent young man," Abdullah told the Associated Press. & quot; But he’s made his fair share of errors. It gets to the point at which you are feeling like he needs to begin understanding and take things more seriously because these matters can change what the results are in his future."

Suspended WR Jerome Simpson mentioned on multiple charges

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jerome Simpson is facing charges of driving on a restricted driver’s license, possession of cannabis in a car and open bottle in a car from an event that happened July 7, per an incident report obtained by NFL Media.

This has become the 3rd episode Simpson has faced since 2012. In March of this year, Simpson pleaded guilty to a felony charge resulting from 2 pounds of pot being sent to his house in Kentucky in September 2011.

Simpson is now finishing up a three-match suspension caused by a DWI last November. He’s expected to go back to the Vikings after Sunday’s match against the New Orleans Saints.

USC AD Pat Haden fined $25,000 by Pac-12 for sideline actions

On Sunday night, Pat Haden apologized for his actions on the sideline of the USC-Stanford game, but it was clear to everybody involved that the incident was not over.

On Monday morning, the Pac-12 office got involved in the matter by fining the Trojans’ athletic director $25,000 and reprimanding him for the incident.

"The conduct by USC Athletics Director Pat Haden was inappropriate," Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott said in a release. "Such actions by an administrator in attempt to influence the officiating, and ultimately the outcome of a contest, will not be tolerated.

"The conduct by both Sarkisian and Haden were in clear violation of our conference’s Standards of Conduct policy. We appreciate the public apology and recognition of the errors in judgment, as well as Pat Haden’s self-imposed two-game sideline ban. We took this into consideration as we determined the discipline. Nonetheless, the actions fell short of our expectation of our head coaches and athletic directors as role models for our student-athletes and important leaders of our institutions."
