A week after rushing for 190 yards and two TDs in a loss to Bowling Green, Indiana junior tailback Tevin Coleman ran for 132 as well as a TD to lead the Hoosiers to an unlikely 31-27 triumph over Missouri.
Coleman (6-foot-1, 210 pounds) has rushed for 569 yards and six TDs for IU (2-1) this season. He ran for 958 yards and 12 TDs last season despite missing the final three matches of the season with the ankle injury. He’s scored in 12 straight matches in which he’s played, tying the school record set by Anthony Thompson in 1988 89.
before five matches in which Coleman — who was a top flight high school sprinter in Illinois — has played, he’s rushed for 892 yards and nine TDs. So why does not he get more national interest? A part of the issue is that IU is only 3-2 in those matches. He will reach go against a sketchy Maryland shield next week.
Coleman had the key play in the Hoosiers’ last minute, game-winning TD drive, scampering for 44 yards to create the Hoosiers with a first-and-goal from Mizzou’s 7. D’Angelo Roberts scored two plays later to supply the winning points.
